Number of new daily Covid cases in CR nears 1,500

Some 1,447 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Friday, the highest number for one day since the pandemic began. It was the fourth day in succession that over 1,000 cases were detected in the country. The number of people known to have the virus at present is 12,260, which is also the largest number since the first cases were detected. The number of coronavirus patients in hospital is 264.

Five other districts, most in Central Bohemia, have joined Prague in being categorised as medium risk on a national “Covid map”.

On Thursday it became compulsory to wear face masks indoors in the whole of the Czech Republic.
