Number of children set to enter Czechs schools rises to 1.4 mn

Around 1.4 million children are due to enter Czech primary and secondary schools on September 1, about 18,200 more than in 2019, and in line with recent demographic trends.

Enrollment among the first five grades of primary school is estimated at around 554,100 while 407,100 will be entering the sixth through ninth grades.

In case some schools are forced to close due to a local outbreak of coronavirus, the government earmarked CZK 1.3 billion of investment into ICT, software and distance-learning programmes.

Part of the funds will be made available to students who lack the necessary conditions for studying at home.
