Northern Lights should be visible from Czechia after dark on Saturday

The Northern Lights (or aurora borealis) should be visible from the Czech Republic after dark on Saturday, thanks to a confluence of events, astronomer Petr Horálek of the Silesian University in Opava says.

The natural light display in the Earth’s sky is predominantly seen in high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic).

But a large solar flare erupted on Thursday and is set to reach Earth on Saturday, which will likely result in a heavy geomagnetic storm and cause the Northern Lights to be visible across Europe, Horálek said.

Observation of the phenomenon in Europe should not be disturbed by the moon, as it will only appear in the sky late in the night.
