Foreign nationals now make up a quarter of Prague’s population
The number of foreign nationals living in Prague is growing every year, according to data from the Czech Statistics Office. While the number of Czech citizens residing in the capital has stagnated or declined slightly over the long term, the number of international residents has increased almost sixfold over the past 20 years. They now account for a quarter of Prague’s 1.4 million inhabitants.
Without them, the capital would have been losing population over the long term, with negative consequences for the city’s economy, according to an analysis by the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR).
