Burmese dissidents receive Forum 2000 award

The laureates of this year’s Forum 2000 International Award for Courage and Responsibility are three Burmese dissidents: Tayzar San, Nan Lin and Htet Myat Aung. The award was also presented in Prague on Sunday evening to the General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB), a coalition bringing together opposition movements in the country.

The announcement marked the opening of the 2026 edition of the Forum 2000 conference, which is being attended by more than 800 guests from 100 countries around the world. Among them are several current and former presidents, two Nobel Peace Prize laureates and other politicians, diplomats and activists.

Forum 2000 was founded in 1996 by Czech President Václav Havel, Japanese philanthropist Yohei Sasakawa, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel.
