Aide: Return of Pavel for elections cannot be ruled out
It cannot be ruled out that Czech President Petr Pavel will return from a private trip abroad to vote in local elections in his constituency later this week, his director of communications, Vít Kolář, told iDnes.cz on Tuesday. Mr. Kolář told the news site it was the head of state’s own decision.
Prague Castle officials say a planning error led to Mr. Pavel organising a trip at the time of the elections. Photos of him at a motor rally in Morocco have appeared on social media.
It is unusual for a Czech head of state not to take part in elections and critics have said that Mr. Pavel should abandon his private holiday.
