Czech Rectors’ Conference warns universities may have to limit student numbers over finances

According to the Czech Rectors’ Conference, some universities will have to limit student numbers after the government rejected requests for a three-billion-crown increase in the 2027 budget for tertiary education and allocated them 293 million crowns less than this year.

Czech Rectors’ Conference chairman Milan Pospíšil, who heads the Prague University of Chemistry and Technology, warned that the cuts would primarily affect more expensive fields such as technical and natural sciences.

According to the rectors, the measures could affect fields including dentistry, nuclear energy, semiconductor technologies, as well as law and social work.
