Maltese Order former grand prior Karel Eduard Paar dies aged 92

Aristocrat Karel Eduard Paar, emeritus Grand Prior of the Sovereign Order of Malta and the son of the former owner of Bechyně Chateau, has died aged 92.

“The Czech Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of Malta mourns the death of Karel Eduard Paar,” the order's chancellor Julian Chadwick told Novinky.cz.

Paar was born on January 4, 1934, the second child of Prince Alfons and Countess Sophie, members of one of Europe's oldest aristocratic families.

He died on Friday morning at the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Charles Borromeo Hospital in Prague after long-term health problems.
