Jakub Šimanský: Guitar lyricist from Moravia

Jakub Šimanský is a Czech guitarist, drummer and sound explorer based in Brno, who has made a significant mark on the Czech alternative music scene.

Jakub Šimanský was born and raised in Přerov. He started his career as a drummer for the noise rock band Unna, where he met his crucial long-term collaborator Tomáš Niesner with whom he formed a respected guitar duo. Šimanský & Niesner who partially draw inspiration from 1950s classic country blues and American folk songs are a significant part of the Czech alternative music scene. They continuously expand their expression with guitar sound experiments.

Šimanský who is active also as a solo artist released his fourth album “Bez Niesnera” (Without Niesner) in early September 2026. It reflects his sense for exaggeration and irony, diving into his childhood and daily life. In this edition of Sunday Music we will also go through his earlier solo albums and guest collaborations.
