Army surveying toxic contamination at Šumava site

The Czech Army began surveying a site containing toxic substances in the Šumava National Park on Wednesday. Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna (SPD) is expected to use the findings to propose further action to the government on Friday.

Environment Minister Igor Červený (Motorists) announced last week that around 1,000 tons of contaminated soil and 200 barrels containing hazardous chemicals had been found at the former Dobrá Voda military training area in the Klatovy region.

A CZK 192-million clean-up operation is due to begin next Monday and is expected to continue until June 2028.
