Babiš not currently considering candidate for next presidential elections

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš of the ANO party says is not currently thinking about a potential candidate for the next presidential elections in early 2028. He made the comment on Nova TV on Saturday. He did say that he had changed his mind regarding the idea of a joint coalition government nominee for the office of head of state.

There has been some speculation that Mr. Babiš may himself run for president against the incumbent Petr Pavel, who has not yet declared. Mr. Pavel beat Mr. Babiš by a considerable margin in the last presidential election in 2023.

The prime minister has previously said that he might back a female candidate next time.
