Chinese espionage suspect remains in detention after prosecutor’s appeal

A Chinese espionage suspect remains in detention in Prague after the state prosecutor appealed the verdict of a Prague Municipal Court which ruled that he should be released from pre-trial detention and returned the case to police for further investigation, Deník N reported.

Investigators fear the man would leave for China or seek refuge at the Chinese embassy in Prague if released, effectively putting him beyond the reach of Czech authorities. The Prague High Court has until mid-September to rule on the appeal.
