Milan Kundera and his wife laid to rest in Brno

The ashes of acclaimed Czech writer Milan Kundera and his wife Věra were laid to rest on Thursday in the last available grave in the honorary burial section of Brno’s Central Cemetery.

Family members, friends, and representatives of the French Embassy and the city of Brno attended the ceremony.

Kundera died in Paris in July 2023 at the age of 94. His wife Věra died in September 2024. Their ashes were returned from Paris to Kundera’s native Brno in January last year and had been kept at the Moravian Library before being interred.
