Government to discuss new foreign nationals law and consumer credit amendment
The government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will discuss a draft foreign nationals law at Monday’s meeting that would fully replace the current legislation. According to the Interior Ministry, the proposal does not change the key conditions for granting residence permits in the Czech Republic.
The cabinet will also debate an amendment to the consumer credit law, three opposition bills, and a proposal to add HHC to the list of addictive substances.
The Interior Ministry said plans to prepare a new foreign nationals law, including the digitalization of migration procedures, have been supported by successive governments since 2021. The current draft follows a version approved by the government of Petr Fiala in August 2024, but it did not reach the first reading in the previous Chamber of Deputies. The proposal builds on the existing law and does not address asylum or temporary protection.
