Media: Czechia preparing unprecedented partnership with Texas
Czechia is preparing a memorandum on cooperation with of Texas, the news website iRozhlas.cz reported on Saturday, describing the US state as a bastion of the Republican Party.
It is the first time the Prague government has established such a formal partnership with an individual American state, a spokesperson for the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The ministry, which is headed by Petr Macinka of the right-wing Motorists party, has played a large role in the drafting of the memorandum.
The decision to build a partnership with Texas stems from the historical roots it shares with the Czech lands, the ministry spokesperson said. The state is home to the largest group of Americans claiming Czech ancestry and the original Texas constitution was written in Czech, among other languages.
