Martyred priest Josef Toufar remembered 76 years after death

The town of Číhošť in the Havlíčkův Brod region is marking 76 years since the death of priest Josef Toufar, who died after being brutally tortured by the communist secret police in 1950.

Investigators tried to force him to confess that he had staged the so-called Číhošť miracle, when a cross in the local church appeared to move while he was celebrating mass.

A special mass at the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary will begin an hour before noon on Sunday.
