Prague concert commemorates victims of Charles University shooting

A memorial concert held on Sunday at the packed Evangelical Church of St Salvator in Prague commemorated the victims of the deadly shooting at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts in December 2023.

The concert featured a composition written specifically in memory of the victims of the attack, in which 14 students and teachers were killed on 21 December 2023. Proceeds from the benefit concert, titled Two years later, will support the mental-health organisation Nevypusť duši, which focuses on children and young people.

After the concert, university representatives, students and bereaved families gathered at Jan Palach Square to pay tribute to the victims at a memorial sculpture opposite the faculty building. They laid wreaths and flowers and lit lanterns and candles. People came to honour the victims throughout the day, with hundreds of candles burning at the site by the afternoon.
