Jan Čejka wins European bronze in 200m backstroke with new Czech record

Swimmer Jan Čejka has won bronze in the 200-metre backstroke at the European Short Course Championships. He improved his own Czech record from the semi-finals by another 34 hundredths, finishing in 1:49.43.

Čejka is the first Czech man to win a medal at this event since 2003, when freestyle swimmer Květoslav Svoboda took two medals in Dublin. The race was won by Ireland’s John Shortt, who set a junior world record with a time of 1:47.89.
