Kubišta still life sells for record CZK 44.2 million in Prague auction

A cubist oil painting Still Life with Painter’s Tools by Czech artist Bohumil Kubišta, created in 1913, sold at auction in Prague on Sunday for  CZK 44.2 million including fees. The starting price was 29 million.

The auction house Adolf Loos Apartment & Gallery said the work had been in a private collection for more than a century. It is the most expensive artwork sold at a Czech auction this year, and the priciest still life ever auctioned since 1989 in Central and Eastern Europe.
