Okamura says he wants to be a consensus speaker of the Lower House
Tomio Okamura, leader of the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, says he wants to serve as a consensus speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, working with both the governing coalition and the opposition.
Speaking on TV Nova's debate programme on Saturday, he said he plans to meet regularly with parliamentary group leaders a week before each session to discuss the agenda and to restore dedicated time slots that allow opposition MPs to raise their own issues.
The newly elected speaker also rejected claims that he could harm Czechia’s reputation abroad, calling such criticism “typical opposition rhetoric.”
