Czechia wins concessions in EU climate talks but votes against final deal

The Czech Republic, along with several other member states, secured a series of concessions in negotiations over the European Union’s 2040 climate target, leading some countries to back the final text. Czech Environment Minister Petr Hladík announced the outcome early Wednesday morning on X. He said that despite the progress, the Czech Republic—consistent with its long-standing position—had voted against the agreement, which is expected to be formally confirmed later today. According to Hladík, one key reason is that the EU executive has not produced impact assessments for individual industrial sectors.
