British pop artist Calum Scott wows Prague crowd on The Avenoir Tour
British pop artist Calum Scott wowed fans in Prague this week with a highly anticipated performance at the O2 Universum, delivering everything from energetic pop songs to emotional ballads.
Tuesday’s show was part of Scott’s worldwide The Avenoir Tour, named for his third studio album that he released earlier this month. The tour’s tenth stop, the Prague concert was initially supposed to take place at the Forum Karlín venue. However, it was quickly rescheduled to the larger O2 Universum after receiving high demand. This is not Scott’s first time winning over a crowd in Czechia: he also sold out a show at Roxy Prague for his Bridges World Tour in 2023, and last year, he performed in Hradec Králové as the opening act to the world-renowned artist Ed Sheeran on his Mathematics World Tour.
At the concert, Scott — who first gained traction with a smashing performance on Britain’s Got Talent in 2015 — played pieces from his recent album, including the high-energy song “Roots” and the emotional number “Die For You,” as well as some of his older fan-favorites like “Lighthouse” and “Whistle.” The Avenoir album has already received widespread critical acclaim for its vulnerability and deep emotional storytelling. Scott has said that the album’s title was inspired by writer John Koenig, who drew a parallel between rowing a boat and how people move forward through life, but always while looking backwards at where they’ve been.
Prior to Scott taking the stage, the audience enjoyed two opening acts. The first was Thom Artway, the award-winning Czech folk-pop singer, who is also currently on his “Zblízka” tour for his new album “Občas to tak mám.” Right after Scott’s concert on Tuesday night, Artway actually went on to perform his tour’s Prague show at the Malostranská beseda. The second opening act was the British singer-songwriter Lusaint, who first gained popularity for her covers of popular songs and has been releasing original music since 2022.
Scott closed out his Prague concert with his songs “You Are The Reason” and “Dancing On My Own,” both of which are arguably his most popular hits. The day after his show at the O2 arena, the British artist performed in Wroclaw, Poland, and he will take his tour to Kaunas, Lithuania on Friday. After continuing to perform throughout Europe in November, Scott will head to South Africa, Asia and North America before finishing The Avenoir Tour in late May in the United Kingdom.
