Sports enthusiasts celebrate Independence Day with Sokol Run
For the seventh year, people across the Czech Republic could mark the anniversary of Czechoslovakia’s founding by taking part in the Sokol Run for the Republic. The sporting event, which connects dozens of unique locations in the Czech Republic and abroad, draws thousands of participants every year.
Held every year on October 28 since 2019, the run is organized primarily by local Sokol clubs. Race distances range from 4 to 10 kilometers, with many locations also hosting shorter runs for children. The largest event traditionally takes place in Prague, starting from the Tyrš House in Malá Strana, with runners dressed in national colors making their way through the Petřín Gardens.
The first Sokol Run for the Republic was launched in 2019 to commemorate the centenary of the historic Sokol relay.
