Army appoints new colonels on eve of Czechoslovak Independence Day

The Czech Army has 19 new colonels, among them one woman. Chief of the General Staff Karel Řehka appointed the officers to the senior rank at a ceremony held at Prague’s Vítkov Hill on Monday, to mark the anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1918.

In addition, 43 soldiers — both men and women — were honored with merit badges for outstanding performance and exceptional service.
