Czechia’s likely next government poised to reject EU Migration Pact

Czechia’s likely next government is preparing to reject the European Union’s Migration Pact, following a stance similar to that of Polish politicians. According to Karel Havlíček, first deputy chair of the ANO party, the Czech Republic will also refuse to participate in the solidarity mechanism — a system requiring each member state to either accept a set number of migrants or make a financial contribution instead. The pact is also opposed by both parties currently negotiating with ANO on forming a new government — the SPD and Motorists.

The Migration Pact is due to take full effect in June next year, but opposition to its implementation is already growing across Europe.
