A cold spell has brought freezing night temperatures across the country. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, 17 of the country’s 171 weather stations measured their lowest-ever temperature for October 19, some for the first time in over half a century. The coldest readings came from the Šumava mountains, where Rokytská slať hit –10 °C and nearby Horská Kvilda reached –9.6 °C. Ten other locations recorded lows down to minus eight.
