Human rights commissioner Šimáčková Laurenčíková ready to resign after new government takes office

Government human rights commissioner Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková says she is ready to step down once the new cabinet takes office, noting that the incoming coalition parties hold different views on human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups.

Appointed by the government of Petr Fiala in May 2022, Šimáčková Laurenčíková previously chaired the Government Council for the Rights of the Child and led the Czech Expert Society for Inclusive Education. Since February 2023, she has also served as coordinator for refugees from Ukraine.

Her announcement follows Friday’s agreement between ANO, SPD and the Motorists on the division of ministries in their planned 16-member cabinet.
