Prime Minister Fiala will not seek re-election as Civic Democratic Party leader

Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced on X that he will not seek re-election as chairman of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS). The party’s executive council is now debating its next steps following the governing Spolu coalition’s (ODS, TOP 09, KDU-ČSL) defeat in last weekend’s parliamentary elections.

A party congress, initially scheduled for April, may be moved up to January, a proposal put forward by the ODS presidium on Saturday. Some party members are calling for a broader change-of-guard in the party leadership.
