Baroque ensemble celebrates Czech and central European music

In this edition of our Sunday Music show, we bring you Collegium Marianum – Lacrimae: Featuring Works by Jan Dismas Zelenka.

Collegium Marianum is a Czech baroque music ensemble, founded in 1997, that specializes in the performance of 17th- and 18th-century music. They are known for their focus on Czech and Central European composers, particularly works that are less commonly performed today. The ensemble often combines music with historical dance and theater, making their performances unique and engaging.

Under the artistic direction of flutist Jana Semerádová, Collegium Marianum has built a strong reputation in the Czech Republic and internationally, performing at prestigious festivals and collaborating with renowned conductors, soloists, and directors. They also have a close partnership with the Supraphon record label, producing works that explore the rich history of Czech baroque music.

Their work has earned them recognition from critics, and they’ve even received awards for their role in promoting Czech music globally, including an award from the International Music Council of UNESCO.
