Covid cases rising again in Czechia, trend mirrors last year
The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Czechia has been increasing in recent weeks. Doctors reported more than 1,600 cases in the first week of September and nearly 1,500 in just the first three days of this week, according to Health Ministry data. In the first ten days of September, about 3,100 cases were recorded, which is already more than for the entire month of August.
Chief Public Health Officer Barbora Macková said the rise was expected and resembles last year’s trend, when Covid numbers climbed in early autumn before the flu season. Last September, weekly cases exceeded 20,000, while this year’s figures remain about half of that level.
Experts note that official counts underestimate real infection levels, since many patients are not tested and hospitals no longer require testing on admission. Alongside cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue, doctors are also reporting newer symptoms such as runny nose and hoarseness.
