Prague to honor Karel Schwarzenberg

A previously unnamed section of the Vltava embankment in Prague’s Lesser Town, located between Charles Bridge and the Liechtenstein Palace, will be named after the late politician and diplomat Karel Schwarzenberg. The decision was approved on Monday by the Prague City Council.

The proposal was submitted by Prague 1 district authorities and recommended by the city’s toponymic commission. Deputy Mayor Jiří Pospíšil (Spolu) said Schwarzenberg, who passed away in 2023, is remembered as a statesman who embodied dignity, character, and a firm commitment to Western values. Before serving as foreign minister Karel Schwarzenberg served as chancellor to the late Czech president Václav Havel.
