Audit: Justice Ministry proceeded with bitcoin transfers despite police seizure

The Ministry of Justice continued issuing instructions to transfer donated bitcoins to their auction winners even after then-justice minister Pavel Blažek was informed that part of the donor’s cryptocurrency had been seized by police as possible proceeds of crime, according to the results of an independent audit. Direct responsibility for handling the multi-billion-crown bitcoin donation lay with the ministry’s deputy for economic affairs, Radomír Daňhel, though Blažek was privy to key information about the transaction, the audit report says. Blažek resigned from office and left the ruling Civic Democratic Party shortly after the scandal broke.
