Tuning of new organ at St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague to begin in September
Workers from the Spanish company Gerhard Grenzing have finished placing all six thousand pipes of the new organ in the western gallery of St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle. By the end of the week, they aim to complete the instrument’s electrical installation and dismantle the huge scaffolding that reached almost to the cathedral’s vaults.
From September 15 until Christmas, the organ will be tuned, a process that requires absolute silence.
The scaffolding removal began on August 18, according to the website svatovitskevarhany.cz. Once construction work is done, preparations for tuning will begin. The organ, the third largest in Czechia, must be adjusted carefully while respecting both tourist visits and church services.
