All-Czech duel looms at US Open as Muchová and Nosková reach third round

Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková have both advanced to the third round of the US Open, setting up an all-Czech clash for a place in the last 16. Muchová, a semifinalist at the past two editions in New York, battled past Romania’s Sorana Cîrstea 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 on the hard courts late on Thursday. Earlier, Nosková reached the third round of the US Open for the first time in her career after Germany’s Eva Lys was forced to retire due to injury while trailing 6-4, 3-0.
