US Open: Muchová advances, Bouzková out

Czech tennis player Karolína Muchová defeated American legend Venus Williams 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the opening round of the US Open to advance to the second round. The tournament’s 11th seed and a semifinalist in the past two editions will next face either Romania’s Sorana Cirstea or Argentina’s Solana Sierra. Fellow Czech Marie Bouzková exited the tournament after losing 4-6, 3-6 to France’s Elsa Jacquemot on the New York hard courts.
