Over 24,000 Czechs abroad register to vote in October elections

A total of 24,206 Czechs living abroad have registered to vote in October’s general elections, according to the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The figure represents about half the number officials had expected in connection with the introduction of postal voting.

The ministry said the number will still change, as embassies are processing applications submitted over the weekend, including from countries in different time zones. The deadline for registration expired on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Registration allows Czechs abroad to vote in person at embassies or, for the first time, by mail. Those wishing to cast a postal ballot must request all necessary envelopes by August 29.
