Senate committee urges Czech government not to recognize Russian annexations

The Czech government should not recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of parts of Ukraine, the Senate’s foreign affairs committee said on Wednesday. Committee chairman Pavel Fischer (SPOLU) told reporters after the meeting that the panel had called on the government to reject any recognition of Moscow’s claims. According to Western media reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made an end to the war conditional, among other things, on Ukraine giving up the entire Donbas region, including Donetsk and Luhansk.

Fischer added that the committee also urged the cabinet to press for the protection of all Ukrainians affected by the Russian occupation in international organizations — including the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
