Přísaha (Oath) to sue Pirates and Greens over joint candidacy

The Přísaha (Oath) party plans to file a lawsuit against the Pirates and the Greens on Tuesday over their joint candidacy in October's general elections, party leader and senator Róbert Šlachta said on CNN Prima News. He argues that the two parties are violating the election law by running as an undeclared coalition on a single ticket. Under Czech law, a single party needs to win five percent of the vote to enter the lower house, while a two-party coalition requires at least eight percent to do so. Pirate leader Zdeněk Hřib rejected the claim, arguing that the law allows one party’s candidate list to include representatives of other groups or independents.

Volt Czechia also plans to petition regional courts to annul the candidate list of the Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) and Stačilo!, likewise alleging an undeclared coalition.
