D3 motorway first to allow speed up to 150 km/h along selected stretch

The D3 motorway, leading south of Prague, will become the first in the Czech Republic to allow higher speeds. Drivers will be able to travel at up to 150 km/h on a 50-kilometer stretch between České Budějovice and Tábor. Road crews began installing variable speed-limit signs on Friday; the system should be operational in the autumn.  The stretch was chosen because it is relatively new and has few curves. The electronic signs will adjust to traffic conditions, reducing the limit below 130 km/h in cases such as poor visibility. The system will be controlled from the National Traffic Information Centre.
