Child victims of sexual crime may receive higher compensation

The Constitutional Court has opened the way for child victims of sexual crimes to receive higher compensation for non-material harm. The ruling follows the case of a stepfather from the Teplice region who repeatedly raped and exploited a girl to produce pornography. The victim sought compensation of 600,000 Czech crowns, but the criminal court awarded her only 200,000 crowns and referred her to civil proceedings for the remainder. According to the Constitutional Court, the decision was unclear and insufficiently justified in this regard.
