‘Rebirth of Venus’ event near Brno celebrates 100 years since discovery of famous statue

A hundred years after her discovery, hundreds of people in Pasohlávky near Brno watched the inflation of the eight-metre model of the Venus of Dolní Věstonice.

The small statue is one of the most famous and most significant finds ever unearthed in the Czech lands. Dated to 31,000–27,000 years ago, it was found at the Paleolithic site in Dolní Věstonice on July 13th 1925.

Many events have been organised to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the finding, and the eight-metre-high model will not remain at the Merkur campsite in Pasohlávky. In addition to an appearance at the Pavlov Archeopark, visitors to Moto GP will see it from July 18th to 20th.
