Poll: President Pavel seen as strong contender for second term

A new STEM/MARK poll suggests President Petr Pavel would be a strong contender for a second term in office, with no major rivals emerging so far.

Voters say they want a president who is decent, apolitical, and connected to ordinary people. However, only 29 percent could name a preferred candidate for the 2028 race—Pavel’s name  came up most often, followed at a distance by Andrej Babiš, Karel Havlíček, and Marek Eben.

The poll also found that only one in seven voters fully understands the president’s powers. Nearly a fifth admitted they had no idea what the role actually involves.
