Number of single-person households on the rise

The number of single-person households in Czechia is growing, according to the Czech Statistics Office. Almost a third of all households now consist of just one person, a significant rise from two decades ago, when the figure was under a quarter. The trend is driven by several factors: rising living standards, younger generations postponing family life, and widowhood, especially among women. Today, about half of all seniors live alone. Demographers expect this trend to continue as the population ages.
