Freezing of judges' salaries violates EU law, ruled court

The District Court in Ostrava has ruled on one of the first lawsuits against this year's freeze on judicial salaries. According to the verdict, the government violated European primary law with the measure. The decision concerns a judge from the Ostrava court, who will receive an additional 9,000 CZK in his February salary as a result. Other judges have filed similar complaints. The freeze also applied to prosecutors' salaries.
