New Škoda trams hit the tracks in eastern Germany

Trams produced by Czechia’s Škoda Group started running in Frankfurt an der Oder, a German city of 60,000 near the Polish border. Eight of the new Škoda 46T trams are already in service, with two more arriving in the coming days. The final three are finishing production.

The deal for these trams dates back to 2021, when the cities of Frankfurt an der Oder, Cottbus, and Brandenburg an der Havel teamed up to order 24 trams, with an option for 21 more. The contract is worth nearly CZK 3 billion.

Soon, over 220 Škoda trams will be running in ten German cities, making the company the leading supplier of narrow-gauge trams in the country. Besides the Brandenburg cities, Škoda also has contracts in Bonn, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg, and Kassel.
