Supreme Audit Office criticizes Education Ministry for ineffectively spent funds

The Czech Ministry of Education allocated more than CZK 30 billion for the development of public universities — but failed to evaluate whether the investment actually improved the quality of education, the Supreme Audit office reported. The reviewed funds supported some 600 projects across 26 public universities. They were allocated  in the years between 2017 and 2023. According to auditors, the ministry only monitored technical indicators such as the number of new classrooms or square meters of built space — without assessing how these changes translated into better teaching or learning outcomes. As a result, there is no clear evidence of value for money or educational improvement. The ministry has not yet responded to the criticism.
