Bitcoin debate in parliament ends without result

The extraordinary session of the lower house on the controversial bitcoin donation to the state ended Thursday night without any conclusions. A new date for resuming the debate has not yet been set. Lawmakers are expected to vote on proposals from the Mayors and Independents, the Pirate Party, and Freedom and Direct Democracy Party.

The opposition repeatedly failed to extend the session into Friday, which is reserved for regular legislation.

The Mayors and Independents want the incoming justice minister to explain the billion-crown donation, which came from a man convicted of embezzlement and drug trafficking. Freedom and Direct Democracy has called for Prime Minister Petr Fiala to resign. If he does not, ANO leader Andrej Babiš plans to call a vote of no confidence, with backing from Freedom and Direct Democracy and four Pirate MPs.
