Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts Africa Day celebrations

On Wednesday, celebrations are being held at the Czernin Palace to mark Africa Day. The program was opened with a speech by Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský. The subsequent panel discussion featured the event’s main guests: Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, Director of the OECD Development Centre, and João Gomes Cravinho, the EU Special Representative for the Sahel. The event took place as part of the National Development Days.

Throughout the day, a series of roundtables are taking place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, where representatives of African diplomatic missions, Czech companies, NGOs, and academia are discussing modern forms of partnership between Czechia, the European Union, and Africa.

The discussions are focusing on the transfer of advanced Czech technologies and know-how to the African continent and their integration into offered development solutions. Other key topics include education and support for the young African generation as future drivers of change, scientific and technical cooperation, the protection of natural and cultural heritage, and the support of civil society.

The National Development Days will continue on Friday, May 23, with a public event in the garden of the Czernin Palace.
