Dutch King: Czechia and the Netherlands can help strengthen EU and NATO

Czechia and the Netherlands can play a key role in strengthening the EU and NATO amid today’s shifting geopolitical landscape, Dutch King Willem-Alexander said in an interview with Czech media ahead of his state visit to Czechia on June 4–5.

He highlighted the growing importance of Central and Eastern Europe within the EU and stressed the value of cooperation between like-minded, mid-sized countries in addressing current challenges. He also pointed to strong bilateral ties, such as collaboration in water management and the economic link between Rotterdam’s port and Central Europe.

The king praised Czechia’s initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine—supported by the Netherlands—as a prime example of effective, united European response to security threats.
