Pavel on working trip to Belgium, addresses Czech MEPs

A firm anchoring in the European Union and NATO is important for security, Czech President Petr Pavel said on Tuesday morning during a meeting with Czech Members of the European Parliament in Brussels. According to the president, the goal should not be to weaken or destabilise these institutions in any way, but rather to do everything possible to improve their functioning. The meeting is part of the president’s working trip to Belgium.

The morning meeting was attended by Czech MEPs from various political factions, including ANO, the Civic Democrats, TOP 09 and the Pirates. The Czech president will separately meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, NATO Military Committee Chairman Giuseppe Cave Dragon, European Council President António Costa, European Parliament chief Roberta Metsola, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. According to the Office of the President, their talks should focus on global security, support for Ukraine, and the EU's response to American tariffs.
